Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a condition characterized by recurrent abdominal pain that occurs at least one day per week over a period of at least three months, associated with bowel movements. It may present changes in bowel frequency and stool appearance.
The study of IBS is multidisciplinary and involves a series of tests to rule out any organic colon condition.
Treatment, like the diagnostic process, is multidisciplinary and ranges from dietary and lifestyle changes to pharmacological treatment and collaboration with other specialties as needed.
